Dermatology and COFM

Went back to SGH at 8.30am today for a dermatology course ... think the MOs had to pay for it, while our dear Dr. Hsu managed to sneak all 3 of us in! The first 2 lectures were really good, wish we could stay for more but had the horrid COFM presentation at 11.30. The other group nagged and nagged for 45 mins and we were left with 15 mins for our presentation - and I'm not complaining! We did the most super-fast presentation ever!! haha .. and best part was, the other group spent loads of time doing theirs and we spent only like .. 1 day? And it was just as good, if not better! Bai kar had a surprise in store for HS at the end of the slides - he sneaked in a stupid-looking picture of HS. Took a pic of his face, shall post it later! That face ... tsk tsk.

Went back at 2pm for the practical part of the dermatology, we actually couldn't get in cos it started, but I think we sort of guilted Dr.Hsu ... not that we meant to, of course. It was pretty good. Saw:

1) Neurofibromatosis with numerous neurofibromas and cafe-au lait patches. Didn't occur to any of us to check for Crowe's sign or Lisch nodules though. And idn't really understand what Dr.Hsu was talking about .. the diagnostic criteria and plexiform neurofibromas.
2) Plaque psoriasis on the scalp and hands on a lady, with nail pitting and onycholysis.
3) Dermatomyositis with heliotrope rash (thought it was SLE butterfly rash!) and Gottron papules ... I thought they looked more like Gottron's sign though. Yay, can finally somewhat differentiate the knuckle lesions of dermatomyositis from that in systemic lupus!
4) Psoriatic arthritis with arthritis mutilans! OMG .. how did they get such classical patients? Those hands looked just like what we see in textbooks.

Was supposed to have a scleroderma patient but didn't manage to see it since the MOs were examining the patient.

Gah ... tried to find a murmur patient but he was sleeping. And HS became really EVIL. He shall be called EM. He wanted to wake the poor patient up just to listen to his heart sounds!

Rushed off for another crazy round of meeting people. Grr .... at least I had the dinner tonight to look forward to. And I think the dinner deserves a separate blog!
