Kwak and Flamande

Met up with Mr. Ye, Mr. Tata, yx and later, Bitch, for some Belgian food tonight! We went to Oosters Belgian Brasserie, which was really cosy and had lovely classic European decor. Started off with our beers. I had Pauwel Kwak, which came in this lovely ampoule and stand, and the other 2 had Hoegaarden Grand Cru, which surprisingly had a very high alcohol content - 8.7% !!

The meal was simply lovely. I had beef casserole (Carbonade Flamande) which was pretty strange ... who adds plums to beef stew?!? I made stew once, and added pumpkin, zucchini and of course plenty of white onion .. it was Oooh La La! Tata's pork sausages with Stoemp looked delicious, although the sausages reminded me of ... phalluses. The Vol-au-vent that Mr. Ye got looked remarkably like chicken pie though! Gosh, but it was such a HUGE portion! And he was right. We ordered 1kg of mussels, and it started getting a little gross after a while. I adore mussels, but when they are cooked with white wine it starts getting a little too heavy. Moules au Vin Blanc! Yum! I'll try cooking them this way one day. Just need some decent peppercorns I guess.

The desserts were totally sinful and crazy. In fact, I thought the dessert I got tonight was the best part of the entire evening. It was poached pear and apple sorbet drizzled with cherry wine. Eww .. our meal was alcohol tonight! No wonder Karen Walker is always so happy. The pear was crazy - been AGES since I had poached pear! Mistook the raspberries for mini-strawberries though, it was quite a scene (Mr. Ye wasn't around - he went to fetch the Bitch) .. hey come on, it was dark in there, how was I to know?!? Yx had chocolate mousse which looked and tasted gorgeous. Scared to weigh myself tomorrow.

Took loads of photos, shall upload them. Guess the waiter thought I was mad. Keep taking photos of food. And damn .. we didn't realise they don't have a service charge, and didn't leave a tip since we paid by credit.

Lovely night!! Waiting for 11.30pm .. one LAST (I dearly hope ...) appointment for today. Hectic, but nicely rounded off by a scrumptious meal.
