Euphoria - for now
OK, my first blog attempt disappeared, no thanks to blogger's very outstanding server capabilities.
Got back from dance, and feeling the familiar euphoria that comes on after each session. It was a lovely night, I must say. A welcome break from all this stress. Learnt an exciting move today - it's an aerial! Oh well, more like a dip actually. What happens is that the follower ends up sliding between the lead's legs (OK, Isabella nearly rammed into my gro*n ... #&%*#!!) , and we all ended up with very sore arms after that. The ladies had to have incredible frame and tension on their arms for us to pull on, and we had to use our body weight and momentum to prop them from a sliding, supine position back on their feet within 3 counts!
And we had a newcomer today, who was really quite surprising! Firstly, she's in Year 1 bioengineering. And something rather silly happened. Yx just only introduced herself as a Year 3 BE senior, when our new member started babbling excitedly ... about hearing all about me from some of her friends and seniors (what?!?) and she asked if it's true that I'm with a Year 3 BE senior. Erm ... =D It took her only 10 seconds to realise why we were all so amused! Now, for more surprises she had in store for us - at first, Debs, Amber, yx and I were really quite worried that she can't catch up, and that these lessons would be demoralising. Wowee! I've never seen anyone learn things so fast! She perfected her Charleston footwork within 3 bars of music, and she could do all the not-so-basic moves like Travelling Charleston and Hand Charleston! I was extremely, extremely impressed - with learning capabilities like that, she could take over the world!
We had 1 hour of social dancing after that, where we took videos of Fiora dancing with Debs. Oh, and I saw Fiora's bf today! haha .. loads of gossip eh?
OK, now back to work. I actually went to buy Prof. Woo's book today! It isn't too bad as an introduction to clinical nephrology. And on my way to the car, I met HypoC and Bong. HypoC actually went to scout out the cases in his test ward, and unfortunately, he says the renal ward has nothing spectacular. They've got a deep vein thrombosis and Pancoast's tumour though. And Bong claims he flunked his test cos he failed to pick up the murmur of mitral stenosis. Find that hard to believe though ... but MS?!? I'd kill to get that case! Heard once again .. this time from someone else .. that my tester is a killer. Most nasty and a nit-picker. Arghhh!!!
Goodbye, everyone. My end is come.
Spent some time in the afternoon retrieving some files yx lost due to a crash, and got most of them back .. gosh, 2 hrs of work by her - no wonder she was almost in tears! Then I almost finished all the MCQs from past years - the questions are ridiculously, unnecessarily difficult - come on, get off it guys!! Who the hell remembers such not-so-clinically-relevant stuff? I don't see how this can possibly be beneficial - good for impressing dunno-who when you blab such information, yes. But how it actually aids in improving health care?? The Dean's office ought to reconsider the value of this test.
Oh, and I came across this FANTASTIC website!! It's a pair of Lindy instructors who are Asian, and wow!! Their site is filled with lovely videos, and what I really loved, apart from their very impressive performance and competition vids, were the clips from some authentic vintage movies. Look at that fab dancing! And they were hilarious too. Especially Singing in the Rain and Hellzapoppin'!
And I came across another amazing blues/jazz band who plays good 1930s renditions and big band music - the Auburn Knights Orchestra. Apart from some very good singing and brass, most of their music are very much dance-able ... tempos in the 120s range, and a few breaks in the music to boot!! I mean, Lavay Smith really rocks for vocals and the big band feel, but she tends to have breaks every so often. Becomes difficult to keep doing aerials/dips/throws/breaks during these breaks when there are about 10 of these in a song.
Right. Going to read just one more case, and it's bedtime for me. Been a lovely night, and a serious mood-lifter.
