OK, sports medicine is really not for the average person at all, and I don't see why the dept of orthopaedics still forces ultra-boring lessons on us. Yes, it even beats the trauma round. And seriously, the things they do ... isn't fractures and dislocations a job for the ortho surgeon? What sports docs do differently is that they try to make the athletes recover in a faster time, and do other weird stuff like advise on the best way to add muscle and strength and whatnot. Total charlatans, in my opinion. It's not what I think medicine should be.

And the $50 mill (or was it $500 million) set aside for sports ... seriously!! The money's better spent subsidising medical school fees. And unconditional subsidy, not the crap that we currently go through. It's high time people realised that our "subsidy" is non other than a way to bond us. What in the world costs us $16,000 per year without a subsidy? That comes up to $1300 per month per student. Professor's fees? With 200 students in the faculty, definitely you don't pay your professors $260, 000 per month just for teaching us a couple of hours a week? Highly lucrative in that case, isn't it? And what hospital resources do we use, exactly? Booking for conference rooms? Standing space in the tutorial rooms?

No, no ... the "cost" of our education was probably artificially inflated so that we have no choice but to ask for a "subsidy". Which effectively gives them the perfect excuse to bond us. Not that I'm bitter about serving a bond - quite the contrary, actually - but this method is more than just lame. It's distasteful and under-the-belt.

Now, a $50 million true subsidy will fully pay for 625 student's fees. 3 years of doctors. And a $500 million one will pay for 30 years' worth of doctors. A much more sensible persuit, in my opinion.

On to the less irritating topics. A revelation. Dopey has a sadistic streak in her. During lunch yesterday, EW was telling us of her experience bringing kids to watch the NDP preview, and we were musing on how easy it was for the kids to get lost. Dopey suggested: CHAIN THE KIDS UP. Now who's the weirdo eh?

Or maybe our entire old CG was full of weirdos.

dopey's two cents - yoz, i'm so disappointed you've only discovered this sadistic streak now?!?! it's also 500 million! i asked bro today. 500 MILLION DOLLARS pumped into an 'industry' that i doubt will ever become a 'pillar' of economy for singapore... i mean, medical sciences is more likely to generate an income for Sg instead of gold medals won by sportsmen, many of whom are what i consider - pseudo-singaporeans.

yet then again, i wonder if anyone here is a trueblue patriotic singaporean?
