Posted a help thread in Reef Central about the shrunken Acans lord, and the guys suggested I place it lower down in less light. Will have to do that after I get back from TTSH. Another guy said his behaved the same also, from poor shipping. Now itching to get more Acanthastrea, but those suckers are helluva expensive. Anyone going to Japan?? Apparently the price of Acans lord in order (for the same quality): Japan, Singapore, USA. We do have the lousy ones from Indonesia, and those are cheaper than those from Japanese waters. But imagine .. in the States, Acan lords are going by the POLYP. Crazy asses. No way I'm paying more than $6 per polyp - those US reefers gladly pay USD65 for a single polyp. Madness. I'd rather save up for a Ferrari - not that I want one, of course.
Just realised my tank's a smorgasboard of stuff from all over the world. Let's see:
Hawaii: Chevron Tang, Flame Angels
Phillipines: Gorgonians
Red Sea: Pulsing Xenia
Indonesia: Almost everything else
Bali: Star polyps, Euphyllia corals
And of course, my gobies and large piece of live rock from Singapore waters. I used to have a piece of branching Porites coral I rescued from the beach, but it unfortunately succumbed to heat 6 months down the road.
Now thinking about upgrading lighting. Or sump. Or skimmer. All expensive, so I shall hold those thoughts off for now. New lighting will double my lighting electricity bills ... eeks.
Currently:
(2 x 150W x 8hrs x 31 days)/1000 x $0.16 = $11.90
Proposed lighting:
((2 x 250W + 2 x 54W) x 8 hrs x 31 days)/1000 x $0.16 = $23.96
Yep, more than double. Dang. The 250W lamps I'm eyeing are 10,000 Kelvins, compared to the 20,000 K ones I'm using, so they might appear more yellow to the eye - thus the 2 x 54W lighting with an output in the blue spectrum to balance it out.
