Alas, lapsed into a fell mood this evening. Monday blues, perhaps - but it runs deeper than that. Dissatisfaction with life, actually. Passed by a friend's (neighbour actually) house as I did some sort of detour just now, and saw his bedroom lights on - a rare occurance, mind. Why do some people get out so much, and here I am, being a total geek?

Don't tell me I'm not.

Not in the usual psychedelic thick-spectacles sort of nerd, but come on. Sad life. A whole album of W&G and CSI, as Mr. Ye pointed out; surrounded by tonnes of books; spending almost all my time on my computer; plants; fish .. boring, isn't it? And not that I spend much time on the last 2 anymore. Perhaps, some people just don't feel good at home. Could be the environment, could be that I made my room too homely. It's just about to get worse, actually. I received IKEA's catalog and promptly conjured up wild ideas about doing some sponge paintwork on the ceiling for baby blue clouds.

Thing is, people've got friends to hang out with. I end up with non-compliance. Maybe, the groundwork was laid out poorly at the start - who knows? Like my neighbour. He's actually one of those I feel comfortable being with, but along the way, we each head for different paths. Come think of it, we perhaps only had very few things in common, and all were physical in aspect. He dropped out of skating, I still held on. Same actually goes for everything else I do. I hold on.

Just a stubborn old mule, just a humbug Taurean.

Could it be that it all boils down to change? But surely, things do last. I know some do, and I have some (albeit very few) that do. And thank heavens for these people in my life.

Sad things aside, Yx and I actually cooked dinner for everyone tonight. It was my usual concoction of Western stuff, and Yx was really good in the kitchen .. I think the US trip really did her good. Entree of French onion soup (Mr. Ye, if you're reading this still, yep .. I actually managed to do a replica of the soup we had on Sat! I used the wrong bread though, it disintegrated in the soup. Should've used crouton instead.), followed by main of pan-grilled steak with baked red potatoes (really pretty stuff) and zucchini in cajun sauce. Some pieces of the steak ended up too rare, potatoes were good, cajun sauce was invented on a whim but heck. It worked. Ended the entire fiasco with the usual stuffed peppers, which promptly melted in the oven after I left it at 175C for 1.5 hours but was still edible. Planned to do poached pear in star anise syrup but forgot to buy the pears, so heck. And to ensure that my mom had something to eat, Yx came up with this olive-vegetable fried rice that was .. yum. I ate 3 bowls of that actually, oops.

Quite enjoy my cooking sprees on Sundays, I still owe Yx the chicken baked rice a la Swensen's, which I promised. And coming up, if I do have the mood for it, will be oxtail soup. Haven't done that in years. But sigh ... these things aren't cheap. I blew $65 on today's dinner alone. Not bad for 8 people though.

65 on a meal ain't that bad. Probably not sustainable on a daily basis though. Then again, who cooks that much daily? Ranting again. Stop.
