Ah, ok. Settled down somewhat, and contacted Mr. Ken about a long-overdue meetup. Great! So that part's settled. KIV hectic Sunday as usual .. gosh. WHY IS THE DAMN BLOODY DAY ALWAYS SO PACKED?!?
Now that it's over, I guess a proper update is in order. What has really happened in the past 3 weeks or so.
1) Tried to be funny, and dosed vodka into my tank at 5ml/day and increasing it by 0.5ml per day. King Robert II London Dry vodka straight from my private stash (i.e. my room) and stopped on Day 3 cos it's running low and I'd prefer it in my stummy than in the tank. It's supposed to be a source of carbon to help the denitrifying bacteria, but I haven't measured nitrate yet so I'm not sure if this method works. And why vodka? Beats me, ask the German reefers. The Americans use sugar.
2) Did a 20% water change some couple of weeks ago, added 250ml of activated carbon. Excellent reaction from corals, Euphyllia sp. especially. Better polyp extension and generally happier. But the Red Sea Xenia is still looking pathetic.
3) Purchased a small 3" powder blue tang from Henry!! Been looking for one this size for a long time. Really, nothing beats Henry for good livestock conditioning - PBTs are infamous for being Ich magnets, and sure enough, my boy contracted Ich which disappeared 3 days later. He's now vigorously munching on live marine algae in the tank and premixed frozen food with spirulina. Totally refused garlic-soaked foods, strangely enough, and hated frozen mysis shrimp. Had a bit of a run-in with the sailfin tang, they were flashing at each other and fighting, but all is good now.
4) Bought a seaweed clip to attach algae to the inside of my tank for the tangs to eat.
5) Drew up my usual blueprints for my dream tank. Bleargh. The STRANGE things I do when under stress. Come on .. exercising the creative side works well as a break from studies. I think.
6) Drew up a design for a DIY coil denitrator, going to put that into action during the break!
Pics of new Radium lighting coming up!! =D
