Tank updates:

  • 15% water change today
  • Discovered that wood glue gave way, took the hood down with XT's help and re-glued. For extra precaution, I also nailed the thing up.
  • During nailing a brass nail fell into the tank, I'll have to find a free day to look for that nail. Brass in seawater = corrosion = free copper = dead invertebrates. CRAP. Plan to throw in bag of activated carbon tomorrow just to err on the side of safety. This really sucks.
  • Discovered powder blue tang dead, no idea why. Post-mortem looks like it's due to severe Ich, probably due to very bad water conditions from overfeeding the tank.
  • Fed Dendrophyllia corals today.
  • Zoanthid colony looks closed, no predators found - yet. This sucks, since I'm on the verge of importing a sweet zoanthid colony from the States. If the zoanthid doesn't open up well by tomorrow I'll have to postpone the order or something.
Other stuff ... went earlier for Samba today, since Ben wanted to teach us extra stuff! Haha .. yes, individual lessons, muahahaha. Learnt some really difficult steps though, we'll have to work on those on our own. Did the shadow volta roll and another odd step (but cool-looking!) to replace the travelling volta.

Now, for the shadow volta roll .. it did look easier when the pros were doing it at Blackpool! Grrr. There's loads of body contact, my erm ... front thangs were practically glued to Yx's behinds (and at one point, Ben's - but let's skip the very awkward moments) , while my right hand was spread out like a fan and blindly groping at her stummy. And we bent forwards amnd backwards in tandem while doing a 720 degree turn. Easy? Hahahaha .. we fell over a few times. Fun though! Can't wait till I can do it properly! Hoping he'll teach the simple version of the Roll, promenade, cruzado and samba walk in promenade position. We'll see how it goes. No more ankle-breaking samba next lesson onwards, but I take it we'll be going down to take more free private lessons, haha.

Yx's going through a bad time right now with exams just round the corner, silly -i.e. inefficient - project groupmates (I've had my fair share), final year project and a chunk of admin stuff. Me too. Loads of stuff still staring at me from the To-Do list. I need to apologise to myself for being bad. I'm not going through tasks quickly enough. Thank goodness the last major performance of the year's over!! We did a piece to the song "Murder" at the Swimathon at Toa Payoh swimming complex (AWFUL memories of that place from COFM, by the way.) and took loads of photos, finally finishing off the night with a club-sponsored supper at Swensen's. Their catfish was decent, although the sesame sprinkling really spoilt the taste. Pity they breaded the catfish and deep-fried it - broiled and topped with cajun or pan-grilled with herb butter would have been perfect.
