Oh, the horror!
Just spent 5 very alarming hours together with yx's prof, M. Which included 2 hours of bowling and 3 hours at dinner, with plenty of small talk regarding the evils of LASIK and the inadequacies of medical education here (M's an MBBS as well). But more on the frightful bowling later. So, horror #1.
Managed to find campus accommodation today, called the hall up. Wolfson hall, fully-catered. 23 pounds per night (!!!) BUT it includes breakfast, dinner, free laundry, and (best of all) the rooms are cleaned out by the staff. Works out to be near 600 pounds for my whole stay there. Own room (not flat), shared toilet, no cooking utilities. And anyway, as yx pointed out, it's downright silly to bring/buy cooking things like sauces and whatnot for only 3 weeks. Sounds alright? Only thing is the location. It is SO ULU. Had trouble finding the bus services that go from the hall to gartnavel hospital, and although they claim a 40 minute walk to the U itself (Gartnavel's closer to hall than U is), I don't see how anyone can walk 3 miles in 40 minutes. Our 2.4km was like ... 15 minutes on average, 11 if you're good? I'm pretty sure they said 40 minutes' WALK.
SO. I checked Google Earth, EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW. Words fail to describe my horror.
